September is National Preparedness Month and the peak of hurricane season. As such, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office assures our citizens that we stand ready to serve our community, no matter the weather. We are proud to have a Deployable Emergency Response Team (DERT), which consists of specially trained members and emergency equipment. DERT uses emergency vehicles to conduct rescue operations and provide supplies in areas with low accessibility. In addition, we have a Community Response Unit and a Jeep Search and Rescue Unit comprised of volunteers who provide relief and support following catastrophic events. Preparing our citizens for emergencies is an additional safety measure we take to protect our community. PSO encourages citizens to review our severe weather safety tips.
School Resource Officers (SROs), School Crossing Guards (SCGs) and Traffic Control Officers (TCOs) are prepared to once again fulfill their roles of protecting students, families and school staff. These dedicated individuals strive to create a safe and supportive learning environment. SROs serve as a deterrent to crime, provide protection on campus, and offer guidance and mentorship to students. SCGs and TCOs work collaboratively to assist students and families in crossing busy streets in school zones, ensuring the safety of pedestrians and motorists. Get to know our school-based members and how they protect our community.
Pasco Sheriff’s Office members recently participated in a back-to-school event for neighboring schools. Citizens joined our Community Engagement deputies and a few Animal Assisted Therapy K9s as they collected school supplies. Pasco County students in need will receive these items to help them start the new school year on the right foot. PSO is grateful for these opportunities to help our citizens further and share our support for Pasco County students.
