National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month raises awareness about this serious crime and provides guidance on how to assist those affected. It also serves as a reminder that everyone can contribute to the fight against human trafficking and potentially save lives. Pasco Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to ending human trafficking by partnering with local organizations and resources to prevent and respond to trafficking cases, while also raising awareness in our communities. Staying informed is the first step in this effort.
Pasco Sheriff’s Office offers a list on our news site of common indicators of human trafficking and how to report suspected cases. Rapidly reporting potential trafficking activity can play a significant role in combating human trafficking. If you need to report tips, seek services, or ask for help, please contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888.
The Pasco Sheriff’s Office uses many resources to enhance public safety and protect its deputies, including a remarkable four-legged friend named Spot. Responding to hazardous situations where deputies may be in harm’s way, Spot is not your usual dog – it’s a robot. With the ability to open doors and retrieve objects, this cutting-edge technology enhances law enforcement’s reach and capabilities, ultimately increasing public safety. PSO K9 deputies assisted in locating a suspect who fled from a stolen vehicle in the Moon Lake Rd. area of New Port Richey. K9 Hondo and his handler began tracking from the abandoned car and covered a large area before becoming fatigued. K9 Cletus resumed the track from where K9 Hondo left off and successfully found the suspect. This call marks the first catch for K9 Cletus, a one-year-old bloodhound who started with PSO in Sept. 2024.
While working, K9 deputies closely monitor their dogs for signs of distress, especially in the hot Florida weather. Fortunately, most PSO K9s are trained for tracking and can easily continue from where another K9 left off, allowing deputies to locate missing persons much more quickly. The teamwork of K9s Hondo and Cletus exemplifies the power of PSO’s motto, “We Fight As One.” A round of a-paws for these dedicated K9s!
