Preparing for the new school year requires more than just new school supplies; it also calls for brushing up on essential safety tips. No matter how you get to school, respecting others on the road and sidewalk, including our dedicated School Crossing Guards, is necessary. Remember to slow down and remain alert while driving through school zones. If you walk or ride a bicycle, use crosswalks and look in all directions of traffic before crossing. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to discuss safe and appropriate online behavior with their students and the consequences of making threats. Ahead of students returning to school, review additional back-to-school safety tips from PSO and help us make this school year safe for everyone!
The challenges facing our landscape today require innovative tools and training for first responders. PSO’s F1RST Rubble Piles address these issues with simulate disaster scenarios. Modeled off of structure collapses, these piles train first responders in scenarios that include terror threats, natural disasters, building collapse, and urban search and rescue missions for both human remains and human “live finds.” By immersing first responders in realistic hazards, these training grounds provide invaluable experience in navigating complex disaster situations, ultimately enhancing citizens’ safety. Pasco Sheriff’s Office members recently attended the UF/IFAS Back-To-School event to cheer on students as they prepare for the new school year! Attendees received free school supplies, bicycle helmets, and haircuts. Plus, they got to check out some of our special PSO vehicles. Local businesses and organizations generously donated backpacks and school supplies to PSO, which our members distributed at this incredible event. We can’t thank the community enough for helping us ensure that all Pasco County students are ready for an amazing new school year!
