Volunteer With PSO

National Volunteer Month

Community safety is a collaborative effort between the Pasco Sheriff’s Office and our citizens, with some even signing up to volunteer with us! PSO volunteers serve across the county, performing tasks, both big and small, to enhance public safety. In recognition of National Volunteer Month in April, PSO expresses its gratitude to the dedicated volunteers who contribute to making Pasco County a safer place to live, work and enjoy! We’re also highlighting the different volunteer options at our agency and how they make a difference!

PSO volunteers play a vital role in creating a safe community by donating their time, skills and occasionally even equipment to serve our citizens. They perform various duties, including traffic control, search and rescue operations, administrative tasks and more. Volunteers assist with tasks that do not require law enforcement action, freeing up deputies to focus on calls for service that require their attention. Additionally, volunteers help PSO connect with the community, improving communication with our citizens. The additional support from volunteers strengthens our efforts, deters crime and fosters peace of mind for everyone. With several units comprised primarily of volunteers, PSO is proud to offer a range of volunteer opportunities. Learn more about these volunteer units below.

Citizen Service Unit

Their trucks are a common sight on Pasco’s roadways; the Citizen Service Unit responds to calls in which a law enforcement response is not required. They provide crime scene and search assistance and conduct parking enforcement, among other important tasks. They’re always happy to help wherever they can!

Chaplains

PSO volunteer chaplains provide valuable guidance and counsel to agency members and their immediate families. These community faith leaders possess law enforcement chaplain credentials through the International Conference of Police Chaplains and serve people of all faiths; never imposing a specific belief on others.

Mounted Posse

In addition to being a friendly face in our community, the Mounted Posse conducts proactive neighborhood patrols to connect with those we serve and deter crimes of opportunity at local venues, such as malls or the Pasco County Fair. They also stand ready to assist with search and rescue missions in which traditional vehicles may not be a viable option.

Community Response Unit

Natural disasters, including hurricanes, are an unfortunate reality of living in Florida. The Community Response Unit provides relief through a variety of skills, experience and equipment following such events, helping our community get back on its feet even faster.

Explorer Post 916

Explorer Post 916 is an opportunity for Pasco’s youth to learn about law enforcement and give back to their community. PSO Explorers volunteer regularly at events, including fairs, athletic events, festivals, PSO charity events and other service projects. Through volunteering they engage with the community and develop an appreciation for civic responsibility.

In addition to units comprised primarily of volunteers, we also have volunteers who assist with clerical duties across the agency, including in units such as Victim Advocates, Chaplain Services, Parking Enforcement and more. Volunteering with PSO is an exciting way to give back to the community, strengthen connections and develop new skills.
