Community Alert: Attempted “Street Takeover”
Last weekend, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office became aware of an effort to host a “street takeover” on the State Road 54 corridor in Pasco County from a group based in the Tampa Bay area. A “street takeover” involves numerous vehicles blocking an intersection while burning out tires and performing other stunts.
The Pasco Sheriff’s Office has zero tolerance for these events as blocking intersections can lead to critical delays in emergency response situations while also creating hardships for those in our community who may be commuting through the area. Through investigative means, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office was able to prevent this proposed event from happening and are continuing to investigate to make sure events like this do not happen on public roadways in Pasco County.
During the investigation, one motorcycle fled from deputies at the location of the attempted “street takeover” and the driver and passenger were later arrested and their vehicle impounded.
The Pasco Sheriff’s Office reminds our community and those who wish to conduct an event like this in Pasco County that blocking intersections or otherwise preventing the flow of traffic will not be tolerated and will be enforced to the furthest extent of the law. We would encourage any group interested in hosting a large event on private property that does not block intersections or the flow of traffic to seek appropriate permits.
