State of Florida Praises Pasco Sheriff's Office for Tornado Evacuation

Florida's Division of Emergency Management Commends Pasco Sheriff's Office for LOL Jail Evacuation - The Director of Florida's Division of Emergency Management, W. Craig Fugate, sent Pasco Sheriff Bob White a letter congratulating the employees and agency for successfully evacuating the two emporary structures at the Land O'Lakes Jail on December 16, 2007.

184 male and female inmates were evacuated just moments before an ef-1 tornado destroyed a temporary structure housing nearly 100 female inmates. The temporary structure housing the male inmates, sitting right next to the femal complex, was also damaged but not destroyed.

Director Fugate called the effort "heroic" in his letter and offered his sincerest thanks to Sheriff White and employees for their ongoing commitment and dedication to public service.
